Research projects at the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences
The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at LMU Munich stands for cutting-edge research at the frontiers of Earth system science. Our projects are funded by renowned institutions such as the European Research Council (ERC) and the German Research Foundation (DFG). The spectrum ranges from the investigation of volcanic lightning and magmatic degassing to macroevolutionary dynamics and the modeling of ice streams. Through close cooperation with the Munich GeoCenter and the GeoBioCenter, we pool interdisciplinary expertise to answer pressing questions about climate change, natural hazards, and the evolution of life.
