Chairs

Chais and Working Groups

Our department consists of fifteen professorships, five of which are chairs. You can find a list of all professors working in the department in our overview of staff members.

Until 2002, geoscientific research at LMU was divided into five institutes, each headed by a chair. The restructuring and establishment of the department, and the accompanying dissolution of the institutes, broadened the scope of geoscientific and environmental research. This has resulted in interesting interfaces.

Today's chairs of geology, paleontology and geobiology, geophysics, magmatic petrology and volcanology, and interactions between geomaterials and living organisms look back on more than 150 years of history, underscoring the long tradition of geosciences in Munich.
