The Revista de Estudios Sociales (RES) of Universidad de los Andes (Colombia) kindly invites the academic community to submit articles for a special issue on "Social and Political Perspectives on the Energy Transition". The guest editors are Johanna Höhl (LMU Munich), Rosa Lehmann (Heidelberg University), Claudia Alonso and Marcia Montedonico (both Universidad de Chile), and María Cecilia Roa García (Universidad de los Andes).

The special issue examines the energy transition beyond technological solutions. It focuses on the conflicts, inequalities, power asymmetries and discourses emerging from the energy transition and the extraction of critical minerals, with a particular emphasis on Latin America and the Caribbean.

Contributions should engage with one of three thematic areas:

Materialities, Spatialities, Temporalities
Discourses, Symbols, Aesthetics, Visions of the Future
Social Relations

Submissions may take the form of research articles or adopt alternative formats.

Submission language: English, Spanish, or Portuguese

Submission window: February 1st – 28th, 2027
