Dr. Alessio Capobianco
Postdoc
I have been a postdoctoral researcher in Paleontology & Geobiology at LMU Munich since 2022. Previously, I obtained a PhD degree in Paleontology at the University of Michigan and a MSc degree in Conservation and Evolution at the University of Pisa.
My research integrates vertebrate paleontology, morphological and molecular systematics, comparative anatomy, biogeography, and theoretical modeling to investigate how biological diversity evolves in concert with global-scale changes in the Earth system, using fishes as study system. An important part of my research involves the application of advanced analytical tools such as Bayesian phylogenetics to specimen-based taxonomic and systematic research, to answer broader macroevolutionary questions concerning biogeography, character evolution, and diversification dynamics.
