Funding opportunities

The LMUexcellent Postdoc Support Fund provides funding for the flexible and subject-related promotion of young postdocs, particularly in the areas of international recruitment, reconciling academic and family life while continuing academic work - for example after parental or care leave (re-entry funding), networking and open access publications.

Applications can be submitted to the Faculty of Geosciences in the following areas:

  • Project-StartUp (support for e.g. purchase of special devices/equipment - no basic equipment)
  • Internationalization outgoing (assumption of own travel expenses)
  • Internationalization incoming (assumption of travel expenses for guests)
  • Re-entry (support after parental leave or caring for relatives)
  • OpenAccess (support with publication costs)

Please read the instructions on the funding portal carefully and check your application before submitting it, as we do not carry out a formal eligibility check. Therefore, carefully select the fields you activate and submit complete applications.

Who can apply?

You can apply for funding if you

  • are employed at Faculty 20 of the LMU (permanent contract), or
  • have a scholarship (e.g. AvH, DAAD), but are in a direct employment relationship with our faculty, and
  • are planning a scientific activity that will be completed before December 31, 2024.

Note: Each application must include a breakdown of the amount requested. Due to the large number of applications for funding to attend scientific conferences and the considerable differences in the amount requested (between applications from different colleagues wishing to attend the same conference), the following flat rates apply for conference attendance ("Travel (outgoing)"):

- 1,000 for travel within Europe,

- 1,500 for all other conferences.

We assume that you will submit an abstract for a presentation/poster for the conference for which you are applying for funding.
