Prof Dr Julia Pongratz is a new member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities

The Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities (BAdW) has elected eleven scientists as new members - including Prof Dr Julia Pongratz, holder of our Chair and Head of the Department of Geography.

Admission to the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities is one of the highest scientific honours in Bavaria. In order to be accepted, members must have contributed to a ‘significant expansion of knowledge’ in their field through their research, according to the statutes.The Academy has 200 full members, 106 corresponding members, 21 associate members and two honorary members.

The new full members are:

Arndt Brendecke, Professor of Early Modern History, LMU Munich

Tim Büthe, Professor of International Relations, TU Munich

Holger Gzella, Professor of Old Testament Theology, LMU Munich

Carlo Masala, Professor of International Politics, University of the Federal Armed Forces Munich

Julia Pongratz, Professor of Physical Geography and Land Use Systems, LMU Munich
