In February 2024, two work packages of the LIRLAP project conducted two Gaming Simulation workshops in Manila, complemented by field visits to the project’s case study sites and a future urban development hotspot—Manila’s northern coastline.
LIRLAP researchers from TU Dortmund, University of Stuttgart, and Dr. Mia Wannewitz from LMU visited Kasiglahan Village, a former resettlement site, and Canumay East, a formerly informal settlement undergoing formalization and extensive reblocking. They also explored Manila’s northern coastline, where the construction of a new airport is underway, significantly impacting existing coastal and surrounding inland settlements.
These visits provided invaluable insights into the diverse challenges and opportunities in Manila’s urban development landscape, including current and future needs for resilient upgrading and resettlement.
