Qualification Programs
At the Faculty of Earth Sciences, doctorates are possible in the subjects of physical geography, anthropo- or economic geography as well as geochemistry, geobiology, geology, geophysics, crystallography, mineralogy, paleontology, petrology or volcanology.
Please make sure to register for our doctoral program in advance.
Please also complete the application for admission to doctoral studies (PDF, 104 KB) for submission to the Student Office.
Please note:
For doctoral candidates who register from 1.4.2024 our new doctoral regulations (PDF, 275 KB) apply.
For doctoral candidates who registered before April 1, 2024, the old doctoral regulations (PDF, 149 KB) still apply together with the corresponding first amendment to the statutes (PDF, 25 KB).
Please note: When submitting your dissertation, you must complete the application for admission to the doctoral procedure (PDF, 480 KB) and submit it to the Dean's Office with all the documents specified therein.
After receipt of the reports, they are displayed in the Dean's Office: at least 2 weeks during the lecture period, at least 6 weeks during the lecture-free period
Invitation to the defense: 8 days before the examination date
At the Faculty of Geosciences, habilitation is possible in the subjects represented at the faculty.
§1 of the habilitation regulations
Aim of the habilitation
The habilitation serves to formally establish the academic and pedagogical aptitude to become a professor in a subject area of the Faculty of Geosciences (teaching qualification). The subject area must be represented by a professorship in the Faculty. The aim of the habilitation procedure is to give particularly talented young academics the opportunity to take on independent teaching and research tasks and thus qualify for appointment to a professorship.

Application
It is necessary to submit a written application for acceptance as a habilitation candidate (PDF, 80 KB). to the Dean, stating the subject area.
