Global Health Day 2026: Education, Games, and Communication

20 Mar 2026

On March 19–20, 2026, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München invites participants to the Global Health Day. The focus: “Global Health for Sustainability.”

Global Health Day 2026 at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München will bring together researchers, lecturers, students, and interested participants on March 19 and 20 to discuss global health in the context of sustainable development. Under the central theme “Global Health for Sustainability,” the conference addresses current challenges at the intersection of health, climate, and societal transformation. Participation is free of charge; registration is required.

Dr. Katrin Geneuss will present an innovative approach to health education in her talk “Serious Games, Serious Health: Educational Pathways to Global Health Literacy.” The presentation explores how playful learning methods—such as game-based learning, serious games, and simulations—can make complex global health challenges understandable and engaging from an Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) perspective. The talk highlights how interactive formats can make global interconnections tangible and sustainably strengthen health literacy.

A practical focus will also be provided by the workshop led by Dr. Andrea Böhnisch and Lea Antony:

With your eyes – Exploring the effects of different perspectives and attitudes towards health and climate in science communication

Workshop Description
In light of the increasing health burdens resulting from the impacts of global climate change, the workshop addresses the question of how evidence-based and at the same time mindful climate communication can contribute to strengthening societal resilience and promoting sustainable action.
The methodological design of the workshop combines role play, gallery walk, and jigsaw activities to adopt different reception perspectives and to analyze a broad spectrum of climate-related communication formats. In this interactive setting, participants reflect on how different target groups respond to scientific information, narrative approaches, and solution-oriented messages, and which communicative strategies can support sustainable transformation processes.
The workshop aims to raise awareness of the growing importance of effective and responsible climate communication as an integral component of global health and sustainable development. It thus contributes to the interdisciplinary discussion on effective communication approaches in the global health and climate crisis.

By combining academic reflection, innovative teaching and learning formats, and practice-oriented communication strategies, Global Health Day 2026 highlights the central role of education and dialogue in advancing sustainable global health.
