Information on the research profile and projects of the chair
The Department of Geography and the Faculty of Geosciences are unique research locations in Germany and internationally known for research on sustainable development and climate change.
Research and teaching combine social and natural science perspectives. This interdisciplinary bridge-building creates results that are relevant to various publics (regional, national, international). They provide a fundamental understanding of problems and possible solutions - and thus an important basis for political and social debate, for education and also for individual action.
Science communication has a prominent and responsible role to play here, and due to its growing importance both nationally and internationally, it has become its own research subject ("Science of Science Communication") in recent years. However, to date there has been hardly any systematic integration into geographical research in Germany and vice versa.
It is the Central research interest to close this gap and to develop the topics of science communication and climate education as central and important cross-cutting topics of natural and social sciences in geography. The department's new professorship "Science Communication and Climate Education", created in April 2023, is part of the WISNA-Tenure-Track Program (BMBF).
