B.Sc. Chiara Lengl
I am currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Human Geography and Sustainability at LMU Munich, where I also completed my Bachelor’s degree in Geography. My initial academic focus was in economic geography, particularly on social sustainability and the societal impacts of economic structures. From this perspective, my central research interest emerged: how scientific knowledge can more effectively contribute to societal transformation.
In my Master’s thesis within the research group Science Communication and Climate Education and the project ClimTip, I examine the role of climate scientists in the context of climate tipping points. My research explores how scientists assess risk, responsibility (responsibility assessment), and scientific consensus under conditions of uncertainty — and how these evaluations shape their climate communication and advisory roles in political decision-making processes.
Methodologically, I apply a mixed-methods approach combining quantitative and qualitative research. Theoretically, my work is situated within scholarship on communicating scientific knowledge under uncertainty, particularly research on risk perception, consensus orientation, and science–policy governance.
