New extension subject ‘Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in the teaching profession’
27 Mar 2025
The extension subject ‘Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in the teaching profession’ will be launched in the coming winter semester. At LMU, we are even one step ahead...
After the Bavarian State Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs, in cooperation with Dr Katrin Geneuss and Prof Ralf Ludwig from ‘el mundo’ (coordination & management) and other didactics experts, drafted a corresponding amendment to LPO I, this has now come into force with effect from 18 March 2025. This means that the ESD extension subject in the teaching profession can be studied at Bavarian universities from the coming winter semester (https://www.gesetze-bayern.de/Content/Document/BayLPO_I-119).
Teacher training at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München focuses on sustainable education in the truest sense of the word and even goes one step further: from the winter semester 2025/26, it will be possible to study for a state examination in ‘Education for Sustainable Development’ as a subsequent extension via the ‘el mundo’ certificate programme (45 ECTS). Student teachers of all school subjects and types of school are given the opportunity to register for the state examination in ‘ESD’ after completing the certificate programme.
