IPCC’s Second Lead Author Meeting for the Special Report on Climate Change and Cities in Mombasa, Kenya

Prof. Garschagen and Dr. Doshi participated in the Second Lead Author Meeting in Mombasa, Kenya from 21.-25. July 2025 for the Special Report on Climate Change and Cities by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in Mombasa, Kenya.

Prof. Matthias Garschagen and Dr. Deepal Doshi participated in the Second Lead Author Meeting in Mombasa, Kenya from 21. – 25. July 2025 for the Special Report on Climate Change and Cities by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) held Mombasa, Kenya from 21 to 25 July 2025.

Prof. Garschagen serves in the report as Coordinating Lead Author of Chapter 3 on assessing “Actions and solutions to reduce urban risks and emissions”. Dr. Doshi serves as Chapter Scientist in that chapter. The Second Lead Author Meeting was attended by almost 100 authors from more than 50 countries.

The Special Report on Climate Change and Cities is the only Special Report of the Seventh Assessment Cycle of the IPCC. It is tasked with providing an assessment of the latest available science on climate change and cities, including impacts and risks, adaptation and mitigation solutions, facilitators and enablers of action and specific information for different world regions and city types. The Report is scheduled to be published in March 2027.
