On 23 October 2025, the team of the BMBF junior research group TRANSCEND, led by Prof. Matthias Garschagen, held its final workshop in Jakarta, one of the two case study cities, alongside Mumbai.

At the venue of the Indonesian National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), the TRANSCEND team welcomed 34 participants from civil society, academia, and government agencies to a one-day workshop to present and discuss research results on local vulnerability scenarios, urban growth trajectories, and local views on flood risk and adaptation.

Jakarta is a climate change hotspot, as it hosts a large and highly vulnerable population exposed to increasing flood risks. At the same time, it is an extremely dynamic city with complex urbanisation patterns affecting future exposure and vulnerability. The results of the TRANSCEND research can help urban planners and decision-makers implement more effective, just and future-oriented adaptation efforts.
