We hear a lot about shrinking forests. At the EGU26 General Assembly, let’s talk about forest expansion!
Uta Schirpke and her colleagues Matteo Garbarino, Nicolo Anselmetto, Arthur Bayle, and Aitor Ameztegui Gonzales lead the session BG3.11 on “Natural forest expansion under global change: assessing causes and consequences in time and space” - and they ask for your research contribution!
You work with spatially explicit and diachronic approaches (eg. optical, SAR or LiDAR Remote Sensing, ecological modeling, or socioeconomic analysis) on forest expansion?
Submit your abstract until January 15 2026 (13:00 CET) and let’s explore where, why, and with what consequences forests expand!
Possible topics include:
• Biodiversity and habitat structure
• Landscape dynamics and ecosystem functioning
• Socio-economic implications for livelihoods, cultural landscapes, and local economies
