CDR Wish Concert: How Should Carbon Dioxide Removal Be Designed?

5 Oct 2026

At the “CDR Wish Concert” organised by CDRterra, citizens can help shape how carbon dioxide removal should be designed in Germany – and which criteria should be given particular consideration.

How can carbon dioxide removal (CDR) be implemented in Germany in a meaningful and responsible way? This is the question addressed by the “CDR Wish Concert”, organised by CDRterra as part of Munich Climate Week on 24 October 2026 at LMU Munich.

Achieving climate neutrality will require more than reducing greenhouse gas emissions as far as possible. It will also be necessary to remove some of the CO₂ already released into the atmosphere. Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) encompasses a range of approaches for removing CO₂ from the atmosphere and storing it as permanently as possible. These include both nature-based and technological approaches. The different methods vary considerably in terms of their potential, costs, and impacts on ecosystems, biodiversity, and society.

This is where the CDRterra research programme comes in. Bringing together more than 100 researchers, CDRterra investigates the potential, opportunities, and risks associated with different approaches to carbon dioxide removal. A key focus is not only on which methods are technically feasible, but also on which approaches are desirable from a societal and political perspective.

At the “CDR Wish Concert”, participants are invited to contribute their own priorities: What should be taken into account when selecting and implementing CDR methods? Should low costs be a priority, or the protection of biodiversity? How important are effectiveness and the permanence of CO₂ storage, and what role should a fair distribution of benefits and potential burdens play? Using the Q methodology, participants can assess and rank different criteria according to their personal views, making their perspectives visible. Participation in the optional anonymous data collection for research purposes is voluntary.

The free workshop will take place on Saturday, 24 October 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Luisenstraße 37 in Munich. No prior knowledge is required – what matters is your own perspective on the future of carbon dioxide removal.
