Dr. Christoph Jörges is guest editor of a special issue on "Machine Learning for Applications in Agriculture and Vegetation Using Remote Sensing".

Dr. Christoph Jörges is Guest Editor for a special issue on "Machine Learning for Applications in Agriculture and Vegetation Using Remote Sensing" of the journal Remote Sensing.

Remote sensing provides a continuous flow of spatial and temporal data, which artificial intelligence (AI) can analyze to uncover patterns and support decision-making in agriculture and vegetation monitoring. Yet, these AI-driven models often lack interpretability and physical accuracy, bringing hybrid modelling approaches into focus. This special issue invites innovative research on recent applications to support sustainable agricultural practices or new methods for vegetation monitoring.

Possible Topics Include:

  • Data and process-driven model integration for agriculture/vegetation applications
  • Physics-informed neural networks (PINNs)
  • Digital twin focused on agriculture/vegetation
  • AI for agricultural decision-making
  • Data fusion and super-resolution
  • Urban heat islands and green spaces
  • Pest, disease, and drought monitoring
  • Image processing, semantic segmentation, object detection, and more!

Submission Deadline: 28 February 2026
