I studied Geology and Paleontology at the Universities of Mainz and Pietermaritzburg (South Africa) and carried out doctoral studies at the Geochemistry Section of the Max Planck Institut für Chemie in Mainz. Postdoctoral studies at the Geological Survey of Denver focused on the chemical and isotopic compositions of mantle-derived rocks. At the Universities of Saskatchewan and Tübingen, I established radiogenic isotope laboratories for the measurement of the abundances of Sr, Nd, and Pb isotopes. The isotopic data were employed for age determinations and as tracers for the origin of geological, paleontological and archeological samples. At the University of Munich (LMU), I served as Head of the Radiogenic Isotope Facilities of the Faculty of Geosciences and guided students in the framework of the geochemistry curriculum.
